Who were the Herods in the Bible?

Several rulers named Herod appear in the New Testament, and this quiz covers them all. Herod the Great was king of Judaea when Jesus was born. Wise men from the east asked him where the King of the Jews was born, and he was troubled (Matthew 2:1–3). When they did not return to him, he ordered the killing of the children in Bethlehem two years old and under (Matthew 2:16). Joseph took Mary and Jesus to Egypt until Herod died (Matthew 2:19–20).

His son Herod Antipas, ruler of Galilee, had John the Baptist beheaded (Mark 6:27). Jesus called him "that fox" (Luke 13:32). During the trial of Jesus, Pilate sent Him to this Herod, who mocked Him, and the two rulers became friends that day (Luke 23:7–12). Later Herod Agrippa I killed James the brother of John and put Peter in prison (Acts 12:1–4). He was struck by an angel of the Lord and died (Acts 12:23).
