What is the Book of 1 Corinthians about?

1 Corinthians is a letter from the apostle Paul to the church at Corinth, a busy Greek city. The believers there were split into groups, some saying "I am of Paul" and others "I am of Apollos" (1 Corinthians 1:12). Paul answers their questions about quarrels, lawsuits, marriage, food offered to idols and order in worship, reminding them that their body is the temple of the Holy Ghost (1 Corinthians 6:19).

He repeats the words Jesus spoke at the Lord's Supper (1 Corinthians 11:23–26) and compares the church to one body with many members, each with its own gift. Chapter 13 is the famous love chapter, ending with faith, hope and charity, "but the greatest of these is charity" (1 Corinthians 13:13). The letter closes with a long chapter on the resurrection of Christ and the promise that the dead will be raised (1 Corinthians 15:51–55).
