What is the Book of Joshua about?

Joshua is the sixth book of the Bible. After the death of Moses, God tells Joshua to lead Israel into Canaan and to "be strong and of a good courage" (Joshua 1:6–9). Two spies are hidden in Jericho by Rahab, who asks them to spare her family (Joshua 2:1–14). The waters of the Jordan stop as soon as the priests carrying the ark step in, and the people cross on dry ground (Joshua 3:15–17).

At Jericho the people march around the city for seven days, and on the seventh day the walls fall down flat (Joshua 6:20). Israel is defeated at Ai because Achan took forbidden spoil, then wins after his sin is found out. During another battle the sun stands still until the enemy is beaten (Joshua 10:13). The land is divided among the tribes, and Joshua's last challenge is well known: "as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD" (Joshua 24:15).
