What is the Book of 2 Chronicles about?
2 Chronicles is the fourteenth book of the Bible. It begins with Solomon asking for wisdom and building the temple. When the temple is dedicated, fire comes down from heaven and the glory of the Lord fills the house (2 Chronicles 7:1). God then promises that if His people humble themselves, pray and turn from their wicked ways, He will hear from heaven and heal their land (2 Chronicles 7:14).
After Solomon, the book follows only the kings of Judah, from Rehoboam to Zedekiah. Some, like Jehoshaphat, trust God in battle and hear that "the battle is not yours, but God's" (2 Chronicles 20:15). Others turn away. Hezekiah reopens the temple and holds a great Passover, and Josiah leads a return to the law. Still the people mock God's messengers, and Babylon destroys Jerusalem (2 Chronicles 36:16–19). The book closes with King Cyrus of Persia letting the exiles go up to build the house of the Lord (2 Chronicles 36:23).
